My absolute favorite place to get breakfast near Tufts is Kelly’s diner. It’s located in Ball Square, so it’s accessible from campus, and it’s also very reasonably priced for the area. I’ve been to Kelly’s countless times, but the first time I ate there, I was skeptical. Based on the teal and pink decor, slightly run down booths, and wide-ranging menu, I figured I would end up with a mediocre meal that I could get at any other diner, but I couldn’t have been more wrong.

Yes; it’s definitely diner food. If you want something healthy or fancy, you’d be better off a few doors down at Sound Bites or Ball Square Cafe. But if you’re looking for greasy, delicious comfort food and bottomless coffee, Kelly’s is the place to go. I recommend the #3 breakfast special: the perfect amount of eggs, toast, bacon, and home fries to start your day. Kelly’s also has an authentic diner feel, which I find comforting. It gets loud and crowded at peak hours most mornings, and I see the same Boston-accented, no-nonsense waitresses working every time I go. It’s also cash only, but there’s an ATM in the entryway.

In my opinion, there’s never a bad time for Kelly’s. It’s great when you’re sleep deprived, hungover, or stressed, but it’s also just as good on your best days. I once walked from my dorm at Tufts to Kelly’s in the freezing, pouring rain, and I didn’t regret it.
